...I did NOT swear that I wouldn't have lights...I just never had them before... for your information, senor Felipe... I actually bought a string of 200 colored lights to put on that same lemon tree at OSH the other day... and just hadn't done it yet... I promise you THEY don't blink, flash & make my tree look like Walmart on Halloween... I'll find a way...sneaky tenore... so watch out... you and your tacky pink flamingo too... hee, hee, hee... [we have definitely LEFT Kansas...]
Mr and Mrs Greenthumb are currently laughing their heads off!!!
But Unkle Phil, really: if you had done without the flashing "Las Vegas" style lights, it might have been pretty... How horribly gawdy!!! (Well, but FUNNY AS HECK too!!!) LOL
Catsinger: only 200? 300 barely does the trick now! Sorry about the name; your humble servant has been properly chastised and the post stands corrected.
...and thanks for the inspiration! I can see it now - an entire flock of lawn flamingos, festooned in multicolored pastel flashing lights, standing guard over a nest of neon Easter eggs...
MM: The lights can be programmed in a multitude of patterns. When they first went up they were set to a very elegant glow; slowly, softly, fading in-and-out. But thirty minutes later I thought "why not?" I seem to remember my dear, sainted parents telling me "if you're going to do something, do it right".
...when I purchased the string of 200 lights... I also got a string of 100 lights...
even without algebra, I can deduce that 100+200=300 NON flashing lights...but if you want to continue to increase your "frequent consumer kilowatt"hours by paying for this gawdy display... be my guest...
MM...thanks SO much for"encouraging" him...[How Horribly gawdy...well, but FUNNY AS HECK,too...] hmmmmm...
have I ever mentioned that my lovely canine enjoys "chewing" on various things... especially gawdy, pink water fowl...[flashing lights add extra flavor...] of course...what else can I expect from someone who likes Easter bunny bar-be-que ...
...a certain nameless [hummingbird] sop "punked" him a couple of years ago...[planting one in his lawn...] and until relatively recently...it was languishing in it's utter pink tacky-ness on his porch... M probably hid it or tossed it [she has taste...]
maybe that's why his porch was so in need of repair...
...I'd sooner eat flamingo than Thumper... on tour we had Kentucky fried mystery meat at many a church potluck...I'm sure at least once it was flamingo...
MM...I agree about bacon... [mmmmmmmm...BACON !!!] my breakfast meat of choice... I always have it with pancakes, IF there's syrup involved...and the bacon gets all drippy & sweet... would that be candied bacon ? [mmmmmmmmmmm bacon, drool....]
oh...and "anonymous", you gave yourself away when you went hmmmmm.. ;D I remember that DD had one too... THANKFULLY... one never darkened MY lawn...ewwww, flamingos [shudder];P
MM anytime you want to cook bacon ANY way...I'll try it... ;d
so Unkle Phil...how does it feel to host a chatroom ?[*snort*]
Bacon goes so much better as a "blanket" over a nice prime rib; keeps everything so wonderfully moist and extra-meaty tasting...
MM: not sure to what you're referring re: the bunny blanket. We do them two ways: 1. Tied to a spit ("Bunnies in bondage") and 2. Disjointed and placed in zip-locks to marinate in a tequila/lime concoction ("Bunnies in body bags")
I need that candy recipe!
Catsinger: the flamingo was still there; it never moved. Until now. Ditto the other guy - the one with the photovoltaic cell lighting his green spherical body after dark. Enjoy! I might even add a small string of lights and little Santa hats to them...
Ah, yes, I remember now. I mixed up "body bag" and "blanket" in my algebra-addled memory. :) You could wrap the bunny in a bacon blanket before putting it on the spit -- so it doesn't get cold. ;)
And re: your last paragraph---does that mean you planted the pink flamingo on Catsinger's lawn??? ROTFLMBO!!!!! Sweet!!! :D
...MM, you're "encouraging him again" :o careful... I know where YOU live... ;D [*snort*] and what I just took a picture of in his flower bed had better not migrate north... or it may migrate 'way north, heh,heh...
Uncle Phil..."they" don't need lights, they are visible enough from my house...
& BTW...a prime rib coated withmy homemade garlic herb butter is pretty good...
bacon wrapped seafood & chicken... yum...
I think it overpowers the taste of the EXPENSIVE prime rib... it's good... but maybe a bit much on PR... for me...
Catsinger, we already have a pink flamingo... It had been abandoned by DD so we rescued it and took it home. It looks just like Unkle Phil's, they must be related.
BTW, you're welcome to add lights to our front porch any time. They'll have to be battery operated -- the power outlet is inaccessible (unless you bring a forklift) thanks to a certain someone's plant-collecting penchant. ;P (We will not be responsible or held liable for anyone tripping and breaking something while trying to string lights on our potted plants. Enter the jungle at your own risk.)
Hiding? It's in plain view, same as the 100 or so potted plants...
Alas, the lights around the door don't work anymore; we've just been too lazy to take them down. Maybe I'll just wad them up into a decorative "ball" and let them hang from the porch ceiling. That way I can say, any time of year: We've already got our lights up! (No one said anything about them having to be lit...) ;D
Welcome to Unkle Phil's chatroom! He blogs so little, we've decided to take over and clutter his Blogger space with these, our boring comments! Ha! Ha ha haa!!! (Maybe you should enable comment moderation, Felipe.)
The flamingos ARE related. Their fairly humming godmother dressed a dozen pink plastic flamingos in cassocks and surplices after Felipe planted them in DDs front lawn. Now THAT was SWWEEET! It was right before her yearly party, too. So proud, thank you very much.

Catsinger, at least he puts the Easter bunny in a blanket before he barbecues it. (Thank God for small favors.) ;)
Umm.... Just re-reading the comments: Unkle Phil has a pink flamingo????

"feckless flamingo frolicking forced fission & fatal fluxuation
finally fouling-up the formerly firm foundation's footings"...
how's that for alliteration ?
...oh, & MM...he could wrap the bunny in a bacon blanket...or one of garlic butter...
I'm still NOT eating "Thumper" ;P
I loved the flamingo. I'll adopt it if no-one wants it anymore . . . .hummmmmm
Mmmmmmmm.... BACON!!! :D
Y'all ever hear of bacon candy? I have a recipe I simply must try one of these days.
I'm sure flamingo would be very tasty with bacon too.

BTW: Pig Candy
MM: They aren't all that big, and I lovingly placed them both in the planter on my porch overlooking Catsingers driveway. Perhaps a photo later...
From San Francisco. Check it out here!

...yes they are related... where are you hiding, uh storing it ? I've never noticed it displayed properly...[heh,heh...] with flashing lights...
I seem to remember that you already HAVE lights around your door...
are they not plugged in ?
perhaps to that same inaccessible outlet ?
seen the jungle... don't own a machete...or a fork lift [wouldn't hack at plants anyway...]
idle threats are no fun when you give permission... ;D

...MM...I asked UP in comment # 13 how it felt to host a chat room...
in comment # 14 he said,"love the chatroom"...
it occurs to me that we ARE writing his blog for him, in a manner of speaking...
just imagine, if he installed comment moderation, how long we'd have to wait to see them posted...;D

...was that the year we had flamingo flambé wrapped in the enchiladas in stead of chicken ?
Was the pink sauce the give away??? hmm hmm
...no, the sauce was still green...
[salsa verde...mmmmmmmmmm]
